What if there was no resistance.
No money, no obligations.
No moral projections and expectations, in yourself and in your environment.
No ‘yes, but…’ to be able to do what you always wanted.
What would you do then?
What would I do?
The artist that I am wants to express itself by painting. Experiment, see, discover… together with visiting new worlds.
Learn new languages. Absorb.
And then: Throw it on the canvas. With power. Stirred inside, inspired from outside.
I want to travel. Walk through jungles. Look strangers in the eyes. Taste other dishes, discover new animals and customs.
Gormandize. Feel and absorb. Suck it in.
And cheer. Celebrate my senses. I want to pick up new languages, new scents, new forms.
And then… then I can take all this back home. Like good memories.
With this thought, I joined a master class.
‘Apply for funds’.
Artist in Residence, that was the plan.
“It’s good for my art,” said the artist in me.
Tropical and far…
Jungles and plants.
To… do what? To make art? Just like at home? To throw out all those fine impressions, with a lot of noise… to spit it on my canvas through my senses? Great! AND getting money for it. Even better.
Yet it was not right.
When I arrived home, I felt emptier than ever.
Flying… at the expense of?
Walking through the jungle… at the expense of?
To meet strangers… at the expense of?
Thus, strikethrough artist in residence.
I’m going in opposite direction.
Residence In Artist
Spain is in me, and my goal is Spain.
What would you take if your house was on fire? I recently read somewhere.
Apart from the living creatures: nothing. I guess. In one fell swoop, all my stuff on fire.
Fine – even fewer attachments.
What would you do if you lost all your experiences, opinions, memories?
Your mind blank in one go.
Apart from the innate quality in every person, that is called Love (or call it virtue? Goodness? Humanity?):
Fine, I guess. Cleans up. Great – start over.
Wouldn’t it be great for the earth if it could start again?
Nice and clean, with a few people here and there….
Don’t you want that for every place on earth?
There is one place on earth that I know fairly well.
This place has a horrible given.
Her blessing is her blemish at the same time.
The sun, the climate, the costa.
It is the biggest polluter of our oceans.
And the problem is called agricultural plastic.
My plan does require a trip.
Not by air, but by land.
With a little support from a fund (master class was not for nothing).
We go to the place where most greenhouses are.
The plastic that we can take with us is like a drop in the ocean.
But despite that we collect plastic, we hope even more to bring something.
The seed is already there – after all, it’s present in every person.
We are going to feed it and let it grow… and no sun or plastic is needed for that.
Mar sin plastico
We operate under the name ‘Zee zonder plastic‘ or ‘Mar sin plastico‘
And if you still think, after this rather philosophical explanation
What are they actually going to do… and how?
– which is very understandable –
Then watch this video
After our journey, the project continues.
How? You can read that later.
In another newsletter.
What would you take if the world was on fire?
Isn’t it already?
