So that was it…? No. Not completely….
This period was not only about painting… normal life was mixed with hard working and sometimes my days were only filled with writing art lessons for schools, spending time with my son and working on the finca.
Nonetheless… from the very day we landed in this Andalucian paradise my heart was lifted and immediately it felt like my home land. My heart opened even more at the hours I could express myself in my artwork. A persisent knowing arose… this is becoming my base, a base where I can open myself completely and where my inspiration flows effortlessly…
My one-year resident period brings me – along with new interesting paintings – a different life in between two countries.
In the Netherlands I will be settling down in a typical Dutch cityhouse with high ceilings and a veranda in the midst of busy life as it flows by… with cars, businesspeople, and schoolchildren passing by – in the beautiful historical centre of a small city.
In Spain I will have an oasis of rest in my Mongolian ger, between almond and olive trees on a mountain looking over the sea and the Andalucian Costa Tropical.
Both places feel like they can contribute to and resonate with a different part in me. Both places will be also working space and bases from where I interact with the world.
How is this going to influence my work?
Working at the two places can become an interesting experience of differences.
As my painting process always reflects my inner world, once again I experienced this during my AIR period. But I noticed changes in my work I didn’t expect like the vivid colours and unusual combinations of colours I began to use.
It may have something to do with the light here. Is it the bright ever-present sun and dry tropical surroundings?

Third place
There is a third place I’d like to mention. And that is the space where my paintings meet the world – or you, so to speak.
This space is at least as important as my two physical working places. Here people can look at and read about my work (websites, fairs) and experience the paintings, presented in beautiful settings (galleries). Everything that is going on here, whether it takes place in Spain, the Netherlands, on the internet or another part of the physical world, will be posted on this website. And from this place I will keep you updated.
Future events
However I really enjoy interacting with people in the physical world, this third place I mentioned is a good place now for me to interact with the people who like and follow my work.
My intention for the future is from here, also eventually invite interested people at my two, physical places. To share in the details of my working process, the inside, the inspiration and the process of making, my studio’s.
When and how this will happen is not clear to me yet, but when it is, I will let you know. Any news about this can be read in my newsletter. To receive my newsletter by mail, please subscribe. You will be the first to know.
Also, if you have any ideas, don’t hestitate to contact me. I like every input and am open for any eventually future collaborations.
